Courtyard 3 Connector Project

SFO is utilizing infill space between Terminals 2 and 3 to complete a post-security airport walkway and to develop needed office space for airport staff and tenants.

The new building will comprise of 6 levels and offer a reconstructed pre-secure connection and a new post-secure connection between Terminals 2 and 3, which will complete a much-needed post-security link that will allow passengers to walk from Terminals 1 and 2 all the way to International Terminal G without exiting security. (In 2022, a new post-security link between IT-A and Terminal 1 will open, completing a post-security loop linking the entire airport.) This new airside connector will also house the relocated Kadish Gallery from its previous location in the T2-T3 pre-secure connector to a new 3,500 sf. space located within the post-secure connection. The gallery will include curated photography exhibits as well as a centralized seating area for passengers.

Atop the connectors, 4 levels of office building are being constructed. This building will house several divisions of airport staff and tenant offices currently located in the International Terminal Building (ITB) and Building 575. Moving these offices from the ITB will free up 55,000 square feet of space that can be leased to airlines and tenants, and generate additional revenue.

In alignment with SFO’s sustainability objectives, the building is being designed to earn LEED Gold and WELL Building certifications.  Project construction began in late 2019 with substantial completion projected in late 2021. The building was designed by HOK and is being constructed by Hensel Phelps Construction Co. with PGH Wong and Partners as PMSS.

The new building will be accessible through an entrance located in the pre-secure connector between Terminals 2 and 3. It will offer 4 levels of office space for several SFO divisions and tenants, including:

  • Director’s Office
  • External Affairs & Marketing
  • Operations
  • Business & Finance
  • Contracts
  • Administration & Policy
  • Airport Liaison Office

The offices will feature the following amenities:

  • 100-seat meeting room on Level 2 near office entrance
  • Several conference rooms of varying sizes
  • Outdoor balcony
  • Wellness rooms
  • Mother’s rooms

The project team will be hosting a series of town hall meetings with the office building’s future occupants to walk through the latest developments in the design & construction process, provide another forum for feedback, and preview upcoming events and key milestones.
