SFO Announces Night-time Closures of AirTrain Light Rail System

Overnight closures are planned beginning May 14, 2018 through mid-August with the exception of Memorial Day weekend (May 24th through May 28th).

These closures are necessary in order to build a new station for the on-airport hotel, which is scheduled to open in summer 2019.  Once completed, the AirTrain system will seamlessly link the Grand Hyatt at SFO with all terminals and the Rental Car Center.

From Monday through Friday, the AirTrain will be taken out of service from 8:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m.

The Airport will operate buses between the Rental Car Center and Terminals.  Busses will pick-up and drop-off on the departures level, center island of all terminals.  The bus frequency will be:

  •     Between the hours of 8:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. - every 5 minutes
  •     Between the hours of 1:00 a.m. – 3:00 a.m. - every 15 minutes
  •     Between the hours of 3:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m. - every 5 minutes

On Saturdays and Sundays, the AirTrain will operate in an alternate mode from 10:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m.

Employees may continue to ride the trains during this period; however, only one line may be operational and may travel in a direction that is different from normal operations. Please refer to the station displays and listen to the audio messages for detailed information.  In some cases, it may be quicker to walk to your destination.

Signs will be placed throughout the terminals directing riders to the bus pick-up locations and Airport Ambassadors will be available to assist.  Employees are encouraged to allow extra time during the closures.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to build for the future.
