March 2013 Plant of the Month - Daffodil

The March 2013 plant of the month is the daffodil. Daffodils, also known as Narcissus and Jonquil, brighten any place in which they grow. Once planted, they require very little care, and are available in a wide range of sizes and colors. This makes them ideal for use as cut flowers and bedding plants. Freshly cut stems release a substance that will make them wilt when combined with other cut flowers. To prevent this, soak cut daffodils in cool water overnight, rinse the stem end and then combine them with other cut flowers.

Daffodils are easy to spot, as the Landscape Department has planted over 3,000 assorted varieties throughout SFO.
