Food Donation Program FAQs

SFO Unites Against Hunger Logo

What is this program?

This food donation program provides an avenue for SFO tenants to donate excess food to Bay Area non-profit organizations that feed the hungry.

Why is SFO offering this program?

It aligns with SFO’s core values and one of the new overall goals, to “care for and protect our Airport and communities”.

Who can participate?
Any Airport tenant that has excess food to donate to local charities.  Currently, Amoura Café, Andale Management, Bayport Concessions, High Flying Foods, Host, Rylo Management, SF Foodways, LLC & Taste on the Fly are participating.

Who picks up the food?
Waste No food has partnered with St. Anthony's Foundation and Glide Memorial, local nonprofit charities.

How is the program funded and how does it operate?
One hundred percent (100%) of food donated by SFO tenants will go to local non-profit charities.  Waste No Food is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that is partnering with the Airport to facilitate the process by managing the network of charities and providing the portal to connect the donor with the beneficiary.

What type of food can I donate?

Currently accepted food includes packaged food: sandwiches, crackers, chips, salads, boxed/wrapped pastries, nutrition bars, ground coffee/beans, milk, juice, yogurt, dairy foods, sushi; and excludes any item with raw fish/meat.

What is the definition of usable food?
The food must be at least three (3) calendar days prior to its expiration/use by date.

How can I obtain a tax receipt?
Waste No Food will provide tenants an annual tally of food donated for tax purposes.  Ad hoc reports can be requested from Waste No Food as needed.

Can I donate to a specific charity?
Please provide the name and contact information of the charity that you would like to work with and we may be able to consider them in the future.

Who can I contact if I have questions/comments?
Please contact SFOConcessions@flysfo.com or 650.821.4500 if you have questions about the program.
