Did you know that the SkyTerrace is open during the summer every Friday - Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.? The SkyTerrace is located before security in Terminal 2 and open to the general public. There is no cost to enter and you don’t need a ticket or boarding pass. Visitors will undergo a security check. Food and beverages are allowed but smoking is not permitted.
Did you know that the recently completed AirTrain project extended the guideways by 1,900 feet to reach the Long-Term Parking area, running 50 feet above a public roadway, and built a new station with a pedestrian bridge connecting the AirTrain to one of two Long-Term Parking multilevel garage structures?
Did you know that, when it opened in 2003, SFO’s AirTrain was the largest automated people mover in North America, capable of moving 3,000 people per hour in each direction? The system consists of a fleet of 41 clean energy electric vehicles that run along over 6 miles of fully automated concrete guideways.
Did you know that the AirTrain system has two lines: the Blue Line, which serves the Rental Car Center and Long-Term Parking Garage, and the Red Line, which loops around the terminals? With a top speed of 30 miles per hour, a complete loop of the Blue Line will take 25 minutes, while a loop of the Red Line will take nine minutes.
Did you know that, when the International Terminal broke ground in October 1995, the $2.6 billion project was the largest construction project in North America, and the largest public works project in the state of California? Even twenty years later, it remains the largest international terminal in North America and the largest building in the world constructed on base isolators for protection against earthquakes.
Did you know that One of the highest priorities for the Aircraft Noise Abatement program is to use the overwater departure and arrival routes as much as is possible? SFO is very successful in achieving this goal: 83% of all departures and 99% of arrivals use over water routes.
