COVID-19 Vaccine and Face Covering Requirements

COVID-19 vaccinations are underway. The City and County of San Francisco has started vaccinating employees in Phase 1B of the state’s COVID-19 Vaccine Allocation Guidelines.  At this time, Airport Commission employees in Emergency Services are eligible to receive the vaccine.  Emergency Services broadly includes employees involved in emergency response activities as well as frontline workers required to report in person and responsible to maintain critical infrastructure and city operations including airports.  Employees serving as disaster service workers and are required to report to work in person for their current activation are also eligible.  Employees who report to work in person because of preference or convenience are not included at this time.

Whether or not an employee has received a COVID-19 vaccine, the mandatory face covering requirements outlined in Executive Directive 20-06, Face Coverings in Airport Areas During COVID-19, and the Airport Operations Bulletin 20-15-AOB, Face Covering Requirement and Compliance Assurance Program, remain in effect for all employees working at SFO.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that even after getting vaccinated for COVID-19, to protect yourself and others:

  • Wear a mask over your nose and mouth;
  • Stay at least 6 feet away from others;
  • Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces; and
  • Wash your hands often.

It is important for everyone to continue using all the tools available to help stop this pandemic.  It is not known yet if getting a COVID-19 vaccine will prevent someone from spreading the virus to other people.
