SFO Welcomes United Airlines Nonstop Service to Panama

Airport’s largest airline to launch year-round nonstop flights in May 2025SFO celebrated an announcement today from United Airlines detailing plans to launch nonstop service from SFO to Panama City, Panama for the first time ever starting May 22, 2025. The Airport’s largest airline plans to offer daily year-round service, operated using Boeing 737 aircraft. United will be the only U.S. carrier with service to Panama City from SFO.

Ricardo Alvarado: Capturing a Cultural Legacy

In 1928, at the age of fourteen, Ricardo Ocreto Alvarado (1914–76) left his family in the Philippines to start a new life in the United States. He eventually settled in San Francisco where he lived for nearly fifty years. Alvarado found employment as a domestic worker and janitor in Nob Hill for room and board and as a dishwasher in North Beach during the evenings. In 1942, he enlisted in the US Army’s 1st Filipino Infantry Regiment and served in combat in the South Pacific during World War II as a medic.
