SFO Celebrates Black History Month with Live Performances, Photo Backdrop

SFO is celebrating Black History Month with live performances by Black artists, a photo backdrop featuring inspirational quotes from prominent Black leaders, and profiles on social media recognizing the achievements and contributions of Black Americans, from groundbreaking aviators to SFO’s own team members and business partners. The live performances will be held post-security in Terminal 3 food court rotunda. The schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, February 7th, 10:00am – 1:00pm: Ramona Laughing Brook Webb and Howard Wiley
  • Thursday, February 20th, 10:00am – 2:00pm: Marcus Shelby

Ramona is an Afro-Creek Muskogee Queer performance poet and theatre performing artist. Mona is the first Poet in Residence at the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health, The Black Woman's Health and Livelihood Initiative, and The Black Wellness Center at the University of California San Francisco.

Howard is a dynamic jazz saxophonist and composer based in the Bay Area, known for his versatile sound and deep connection to both traditional and contemporary jazz. His music blends soulful improvisation with rich harmonic textures, drawing inspiration from the roots of African American music and the expansive possibilities of modern jazz. With a reputation for captivating performances and an innovative approach to composition, Wiley has become a key figure in the Bay Area’s vibrant jazz scene.

Marcus is a composer, bassist, bandleader, and educator based in San Francisco. His work focuses on the history, present, and future of African American lives, social movements, and music education. Shelby is currently the Artistic Director of Healdsburg Jazz, an artist in residence with the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, and a member of the San Francisco Arts Commission.
