The San Francisco Chinese Chamber of Commerce awarded SFO with its “Year of the Snake” award at its annual banquet celebrating sponsors of the 2025 Chinese Newy Year Parade. This is the second year that SFO has participated in the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade and the first time it has won the award. The parade took place on February 15th, 2025, in downtown San Francisco.
Sponsors of the parade worked with a group called “The Parade Guys” to design and build their custom floats. Members of SFO’s AAPI Employee Resource Group (ERG) and Marketing & Communications team met with The Parade Guys multiple times to hone their vision for the float, which centered on the aviation themes of “planes”, “boarding passes”, and “clouds”.
As part of the parade contingent, SFO Custodial staff dressed in traditional Chinese clothing and danced while stationed on top of the float. Consisting of 12 employees, the dance team practiced for three months leading up the parade. The contingent also included an additional 50 people, consisting of SFO staff and family, who walked behind the float along the parade route.
