Did you know that San Francisco International Airport has been operating in the same location since May 27, 1927? The City & County of San Francisco purchased the land in 1930. Originally named Mills Field Municipal Airport of San Francisco, the name was changed to San Francisco Airport in 1931, and changed again to San Francisco International Airport right after World War II to reflect the growing international air service developing at SFO.

Did you know that the Terminal 3 Modernization Project will create 200,000 square feet of additional space, allowing for expanded food, beverage, and retail concessions?

Did you know that because SFO is physically located in San Mateo County, the City and County of San Francisco have agreements in place, which allow San Francisco Police & Fire Departments to operate at SFO? Due to SFO’s physical location, certain proceedings like crime scene processing, investigations, arrests, and coroner inquiries are booked and processed by or through San Mateo County facilities.
