Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month?  Mental health and well-being are important components of a healthy work environment and how we feel and cope at work can significantly impact our lives both in and outside of work.  A great place to find support for mental health wellness is your health plan.

Did you know that SFO's Clean Vehicle Policy extends to airfield vehicles? Airlines started acquiring electric aircraft ground service equipment (GSE) decades ago. Now, some 700 pure electric vehicles are in service, amounting to 30% of all tenant-operated airfield vehicles.

Did you know that AirTrain replaced the airport's diesel-powered rental car shuttle buses, which operated 600 round trips per day? Powered by clean hydro-electricity, AirTrain eliminates all emissions for a service used by one in six Airport customers.

Did you know that, for more than 30 years, SFO has worked with surrounding communities to help preserve compatible land uses in areas under the flight paths? For example, SFO was successful in working with local governmental agencies to keep the area along the shoreline north of the Airport slated as an industrial zone.

Did you know that, since the late 1970s, SFO has been a participant and supporter of the Airport Community Roundtable, a public forum for aircraft noise reduction?  The Roundtable develops an annual work plan to establish new noise abatement and mitigation programs and monitors existing ones.

Did you know that SFO adopted a Clean Vehicle Policy in February 2000? The policy strongly encourages the replacement of gasoline and diesel vehicles with clean air vehicles powered by alternative fuels like electricity and renewable compressed natural gas (RCNG).

Did you know that SFO received multiple awards for video production in 2023? In their 2023 Viddy Awards, the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals honored SFO with four gold-level awards recognizing outstanding achievement in video and digital production.

Did you know that Marlon D. Green fought for and won the right to fly as a pilot for a major United States airline? This was a triumph during a time when segregation often kept Black people out of what were at the time all-white spaces, like the flight deck of commercial aircraft. Green flew for Continental Airlines from 1965 to 1978.

Did you know that Willa Brown was the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license in the United States, the first African American woman to run for the United States Congress, the first African American officer in the Civil Air Patrol, and the first woman in the U.S. to have both a pilot's license and an aircraft mechanic's license?

Did you know that Charles Alfred Anderson is regarded as the “Father of Black Aviation”? He taught himself how to fly and would later train the first Black Air Force combat pilots as head of the Tuskegee Institute’s Civilian Pilot Training Program, a federal program that would pave the way for attaining equal rights for African-American pilots.
