The Plane Talk Award was created in 2022 in honor of past Plane Talk President Joshua Montgomery who passed away in 2021.

SFO’s Toastmasters Club, Plane Talk, awarded its first ever “Joshua Montgomery Award” to Eddy Chan on May 21st, 2025. Created in memory of SFO’s Joshua Montgomery, who passed away in February 2022, the award is given to an employee who displays exemplary leadership and commitment to developing their professional communication skills through Plane Talk.
Joshua Montgomery was the Plane Talk President from 2021-2022 where he set the tone as a fearless leader for SFO’s Toastmasters Club. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Joshua responded to the challenge by pivoting the club from in-person events to the Zoom platform online. As a team member, he always provided helpful and supportive guidance for all club activities. He motivated fellow Toastmasters to learn alongside him as he himself continued to find his voice in making speeches and participating in Club contests. Joshua always showed respect and dignity toward everyone he encountered.
In the words of former Airport Director, Ivar C. Satero: “Joshua always seemed to be lit from within, radiating enthusiasm, joy and positive energy. He brought the same infectious spirit into everything he did, from his role within our Safety Management team to his contributions to initiatives like BIPOC and more. While he has left us far too soon, we can all honor his memory by continuing to make SFO a place I hope he found meaningful… a place built on teamwork, care for our passengers and each other, service to our communities, and commitment to diversity and equity. We are all better for having been able to call Joshua Montgomery a colleague, a co-worker, and a friend. He will truly be missed by us all.”
“We know full well the void he leaves in our SFO family” said COO Jeff Littlefield.

Joshua’s mother, Katrina Montgomery, his brother Justin, and his sister Amber Naulls and her son Adam were in attendance to witness the presentation of the award.
Eddy Chan shared: “Thank you everyone for this award! I am so honored! I remember meeting Joshua at my first Toastmaster open house five years ago. He was so kind and positive, I was left with the impression that Toastmasters was a good place to be.”
