Face Masks Are Still Required At SFO

Face masks are still required at SFO. There are no exceptions based on vaccination status. Face masks are still required for employees working:

  • outdoors, except in cases where physical distancing can be maintained; and
  • inside all Airport buildings, shared spaces, or shared vehicles except when working alone in a private office with the door closed.

While the Airport acknowledges that the Centers for Disease Control has recently issued revised guidelines, and that Cal/OSHA will discuss revisions to its current standards on June 17, at this time, the requirements at SFO have not changed. We will closely monitor Cal/OSHA developments and any new standards that may come into effect at the end of this month.

Current Cal/OSHA regulations continue to require face coverings for all employees in the workplace regardless of vaccination status. Given unchanged Cal/OSHA requirements as of the writing of this memo, the City & County of San Francisco will continue to require that everyone entering City owned or leased facilities wear face coverings regardless of vaccination status.

San Francisco’s Health Officer has issued a new health order and rescinded a number of previous requirements all of which became effective June 15, 2021 (Health Order). Please note, the Health Officer’s declaration of a health emergency and the Mayor’s proclamation of local emergency will continue to be in effect.

Thank you for continuing to comply with all health, safety, and security measures.
