Carts for Belle Air

SFO’s Carpentry Shop recently built special storage carts for students of Belle Air School in San Bruno.  Built at the request of the school, the carts will enable students to store their personal belongings, such as backpacks and jackets, outside of the classroom and maintain the school’s COVID-19 safety protocol.  A total of 10 carts were built and delivered to the Belle Air School, in time for its scheduled reopening on March 8th.

Susan Kim, Manager of SFO’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, worked directly with the school’s Principal, Kerry Dees, and Mike Lynch, who heads the Airport’s Carpentry Shop, to create the special carts to meet the needs of the school.

Said Principal Dees, “We are so grateful for the support from our partners at SFO - these beautifully constructed carts made by the SFO team will allow more flexibility for students to gather and learn outdoors, and help the school adhere to new COVID-related health and safety guidelines.  It truly takes a village!”

Belle Air Elementary School, located in San Bruno, is SFO’s “adopted” school under the Adopt-a-School Program, which began in 2010.  Over the years, the friendship between SFO and Belle Air have included several projects, including the creation of the Belle Air Garden.  Because of its location, adjacent to Airport property, the schools is impacted by Airport operations on a daily basis.

Currently, SFO’s Paint Shop is completing a playground improvement project for the school, which will be completed in time to welcome the students back.
