SFO Employee Coordinates Donation of Masks from China

SFO employee Zihong Gorman recently helped coordinate a donation of 3,000 surgical masks from Shendong, China to help essential employees during the COVID-19 health crisis.  The masks were delivered on April 2nd and are being distributed to Commission employees by the Safety, Health and Wellness department.

Zihong, of SFO’s Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITT) department, is a graduate of Wuhan University in China.  As the pandemic spread throughout the globe, Zihong, along with other alumni of Wuhan University, began coordinating efforts to donate masks to areas in need of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplies.

“Having attended Wuhan University, this crisis really hit home for me early on.  I have a lot of friends in Wuhan and have been personally impacted”, said Zihong.  “Now that the tide is turning there they are asking other countries if they need help. I was glad that I could secure a supply for SFO.”

Audrey Lawrence, of the Safety, Health and Wellness department, has been leading the effort to inspect and distribute the masks to employees.

“This came at a great time” says Audrey.  “We were just starting to run low on our existing supply of masks.”

Custodial and Maintenance employees are currently receiving half-mask respirators while working at SFO, which are reusable, industrial masks that cover the mouth and nose.  The donated masks are available to all other Commission employees, and are primarily being distributed to individuals working in offices.

A big SFO Thank You to Zihong and Audrey for coordinating this effort, and to all of SFO’s frontline employees for their efforts in keeping SFO Strong!
