Airport accomplishments include the first new domestic airline in 15 years

SFO was named a 2023 Routes Americas award winner for their success developing new airlines and destinations. SFO was honored in the “Over 20 Million Passengers” category, representing the largest airports in North America. The Airport showed incredible recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, supported through worldwide marketing campaigns, identifying key markets for future growth, and maximizing promotional impact. These efforts resulted in SFO welcoming its first new domestic carrier in 15 years with Breeze Airways, along with new international carriers including Flair to Vancouver and Edmonton, Air Transat to Montreal, and Condor to Frankfurt.
“The development of new air service has been critical to our passenger traffic recovery,” said Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. “By expanding our focus to include domestic airlines, SFO is offering customers what they value most — a wide variety of nonstop travel choices at competitive prices. This award is a testament to the dedicated efforts of our Aviation Marketing and Development team.”
The Routes awards are highly regarded in the aviation industry for recognizing marketing services that support new and existing air services, as well as excellence and innovation in the route development community. Awards were given out at the annual Routes America conference held this year in Chicago.
