Runway repaving project timed for completion by Memorial Day weekend A project to repave the shortest runway at SFO, involving an eight-week closure of the runway, is on track to begin on March 27, 2023. SFO plans to close Runway 1 Left to repave the surface layer, make improvements to adjacent taxiways, upgrade lighting, and paint new striping and markings. The runway is expected to reopen no later than Thursday, May 25, 2023, for Memorial Day weekend travel.

SFO Custodians came to the rescue recently when a pair of passengers lost their purses in the Terminals. The Custodians’ quick thinking and conscientious action helped reunite the passengers with cash and personal items and illustrated the “Care” and “Excellence” that are the foundation of the Airport’s Core Values.

Airports Council International announces winners of annual Airport Service Quality survey Airports Council International (ACI), the foremost advocate for airport operators around the world, named SFO the Best Airport in North America in their 2022 Awards for Airport Service Quality (ASQ) , recognizing the best airports for customer experience as selected by passengers. SFO achieved this award in the category covering North American airports serving over 40 million annual passengers. Dallas-Fort Worth airport was also honored in this category.

Autonomous electric-powered system was the largest in North America SFO celebrated the 20th anniversary of the AirTrain people mover on March 3rd, which connected all four terminals to the Airport’s consolidated Rental Car Center. On March 3, 2003, San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown officially inaugurated the system, completed at a cost of $430M as part of SFO’s ambitious Master Plan.
